Why We Continue To Buy Clothes That We Don't Wear

Why We Continue To Buy Clothes That We Don't Wear

Why do we keep buying clothes only to find that they stay in the wardrobe? From impulsive shopping and good offers to changing trends and the ideal life to which we could aspire, find out what it is all about and how to be more careful in making fashion choices.

Having many clothes can ironically become a bad thing because it makes it hard for us to choose an outfit

We can have a pair of jeans that we want to wear but end up thinking that another pair of jeans that we bought looked better in the store. We have a dress for a special event and a shirt that we fell in love with when it was bought on a whim.

Everyone has this type of clothing that they feel like they aren't going to be able to use

The question is what makes us keep buying clothes that we don't use?

We Buy Clothes For The Person That We Want To Be Someday

We see someone wearing a blazer and imagine ourselves in that blazer working at an important meeting going on a dinner date or doing other PDA activities. We buy a pair of shoes that we imagine ourselves wearing in an outfit. Maybe we want to be someone today and go out and buy a style of clothes that is completely different from what we usually wear in a fit of trying to be someone else.

When Monday comes and it is time to get dressed we find ourselves wearing the same old jeans and shirt again.

There is nothing wrong with trying to be someone else but clothes are meant to be used to make our real lives that we are living better not the life we wish that we had.

A Sale Can Turn Anything Into Something That We Think We Need

"I'll buy it because it is on sale!" is a quote that everyone can relate to

A ₹4000 jacket that's on a sale for 50% off seems like such a great deal that it is tempting to take advantage of the offer. But if the ₹4000 jacket was something that we thought was way out of our budget and the ₹2000 jacket is something that we don't really need the sale price did not really help us.

When we see something that we are tempted to buy because it is on a sale it is important to ask ourselves the question "Would I have bought it if it wasn't on sale?"

The answer to this question might surprise us.

Trends Don't Always Make It Into Our Closets

Something that looks good on people does not always look good on us

Trends are really prevalent nowadays because of the role that social media plays in our lives. We see a style of dress, shoes or even a certain way of dressing and we find ourselves buying the trend because we imagine ourselves wearing it. A weeks later the "cool" factor wears off and we realize that the trend was not worth it.

The Thrill Of Buying Clothes That We Love

We may buy clothes for the love of clothes itself

We enjoy the hunt for the clothes and taking the time to order the clothes and waiting for the delivery. It feels like a treat for ourselves after a week. The problem is that the thrill of finding the clothes that we love can become bigger than the usefulness of the clothes. We may find ourselves loving the dress that we buy but not wanting to wear it.

Maybe We Just Don't Need Clothes

We are not saying that you should never buy clothes again we just think that it may be important to cut down a little on impulse buying. Before buying clothes think to yourself whether you can actually use the clothes that you want to buy. Can you incorporate the clothes that you want to buy in least 2 or 3 outfits? Would the clothes that you want to buy be comfortable enough to be used ? Would you pick it off the line when you are, in a hurry to get dressed? If you find yourself in another state by morning some clothes just aren't that important.

A great wardrobe is not made up of clothes that are bought and never worn. It is made up of clothes that are worn and that you actually love.
