Mumbai: The controversy surrounding late actor Sushant Singh Rajput and Disha Salian's death has once again been back in the headlines after the Bombay High Court ordered the CBI to investigate the case. The latest order was issued on September 2, 2026.
What did the Bombay High Court order?
The court directed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to register an FIR and record the statement of Disha Salian's father, Satish Salian. It also directed that a senior and experienced official be appointed to look into the case.
The court also made an important clarification saying that no one should be treated like the accused if they are simply alleged to have done something wrong. Any further action against an individual will only be taken if enough evidence has been discovered during the investigation.
What happened to Disha Salian?
Disha Salian, who was a celebrity manager and had also worked with Sushant Singh Rajput, died on June 8, 2020, after falling off a residential building in Mumbai's Malad area.
While the Mumbai Police's investigation into Disha Salian's death was regarded as suicide, Disha's father alleged multiple times that police were being too quick to label her death a suicide and sought an independent CBI investigation which he believed would find foul play.
What is the connection to Sushant Singh Rajput?
Disha Salian died just six days before Sushant Singh Rajput (who died on June 14, 2020). Since that time, there have been multiple theories and allegations linking both tragedies, but so far, there is no known legal link between the deaths of Disha Salian and Sushant Singh Rajput. The Bombay High Court's latest order dealt specifically with investigating the death of Disha Salian and did not make any new conclusions about the circumstances surrounding Sushant Singh Rajput's death.
What happens next?
The CBI will investigate Disha Salian's death based on the available documents and evidence. If it finds enough evidence of a cognisable offence, it can move on to the next step and file a chargesheet. If no offence has been found, it may file a closure report.
